SDG Talks: Quality Education

Join SDG 4: Quality Education, as they talk and engage on issues of inclusive, equitable education and lifelong learning opportunities for all, empowering individuals and fostering sustainable development. The theme is Community of Difference Makers, showcasing dedicated individuals and organizations advancing environmental stewardship, community building, and social entrepreneurship.

HomeworkHub: Priyanshi Dokania

Priyanshi is a Grade 11 student in Waterloo and the President of HomeworkHub. She works closely with other integral members of the team to ensure HomeworkHub’s mission of providing equitable, accessible education to students in need is fulfilled. In her spare time, Priyanshi loves to swim, skate, read, and bake! She’s passionate about making a positive impact in her community and is always excited to contribute to meaningful causes.

Gather + Make: Becky Swainson

Becky Swainson is an environmental/social scientist, sewist and textile artist, instructor, and advocate for mending, slow fashion, and textile circularity based in Guelph, Ontario. She is a founder of the Stitch Together Community Mending Project, and teaches sought-after sewing and mending workshops, both collaboratively with organizations like the Guelph Tool Library, 10C Shared Space, the City of Waterloo, the University of Guelph, and through her own studio, gather + make.

Peace for all Canada: Ayiko Solomon

Ayiko Solomon, with a Master’s degree in Human Security and Peacebuilding from Royal Roads University, has significantly contributed to socio-economic recovery in post-war South Sudan through his role with the United Nations Mission. He has improved health and education quality, ensuring essential services for communities. in 2005, Solomon founded Peace for All International to aid internally displaced people in Northern Uganda, focusing on education, health, and socio-economic development. His efforts in youth peace and conflict resolution education, using sports and peace education, are noteworthy. Additionally, he leads Peace for All Canada, working with parents and community leaders to build community capacity for quality education, peaceful coexistence, and youth empowerment, fostering a culture of peace and collaboration.

Provincial Elections:

  •     Provincial Election Day: June 2nd 2022
  •     First date to submit nominations: Nominations can be submitted anytime
  •     Last Day to submit nomination by email and such: May 3rd 2022
  •     Last day to submit nomination to local Returning Officer: May 12 2022

Municipal Elections:

  •     1st date to submit candidacy:  May 2nd 2022
  •     Last date to submit candidacy: August 19th 2022, 2pm (also last day to withdraw a candidacy)
  •     Candidates are certified: August 22nd
  •     Municipal Elections: Oct 24th 2022, 10am -8pm (subject to local rules)
