Event Details

Join the Kitchener Public Library for a special Black history foodways event in celebration of Black History Month.

Discover the rich culinary traditions of nineteenth-century Black settlers in our region as we explore a historical artifact from the Library’s collection highlighting the celebratory foodways of the Queen’s Bush settlement — one of Ontario’s most notable historic Black communities. Food samples will be served, followed by a community discussion.

Guest speaker Laila El Mugammar — a Black Canadian scholar, journalist, and Lifelong Learning Librarian — will share insights into the historic and present-day relationships between Black Canadians and public spaces. Register HERE.

All are welcome to learn, taste, and connect as we honour history through food and conversation.
