Your Liberal Leadership Candidates for Prime Minister of Canada

The Liberal Party has officially approved six of the seven individuals who applied to run in its upcoming leadership contest, marking a key step forward in the race to succeed Justin Trudeau as party leader and, potentially, as Canada’s next Prime Minister.

Among those approved are high-profile figures such as former central banker Mark Carney and former Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland, along with several other contenders representing a range of perspectives within the party. One applicant, however, did not receive approval to enter the race.

With the field now set, the leadership race is moving into a more structured phase. The smaller pool of candidates may reflect a stricter vetting process and higher standards set by the party. Attention will now turn to upcoming debates, policy proposals, and which candidates can gain momentum through endorsements, fundraising, and regional support.

The next major milestone will be the leadership vote itself, when party members will decide who will guide the Liberals into the next federal election and shape the party’s future direction.
